Topic & Description:
From Local to Global: Concepts, Frameworks, and Analytical Tools Necessary to Develop an Effective Global Strategy
Globalization has changed the dynamics of business irrevocably. Today’s companies must operate on a much larger scale and in an environment of global competitiveness where product development, market needs, customers’ targets must take into account multiple cultures, collaborations and regional developments. Even for companies that do not intend to “go abroad,” the entry of foreign companies into their home markets makes a better understanding of global strategy a necessity if not a requisite for survival. The goal of this course is to introduce you to concepts, frameworks, and analytical tools necessary to develop an effective global strategy. There will be case studies and a presentation by student group teams on companies visited.

Global Network Perspectives is a new online ideas-based magazine featuring the expertise, research, and opinions of faculty and other contributors from throughout the Global Network for Advanced Management, with an emphasis on the complexities of doing business in an increasingly interconnected world.
The content in Global Network Perspectives is submitted by member schools, with most of the articles coming from the schools' existing websites and publications. The site welcomes submissions from all member schools; contact Matthew O’Rourke (matthew.orourke@yale.edu) to learn more about contributing.
Global Network Perspectives is managed by an editorial team of eight member schools, currently including EGADE Business School, ESMT, HKUST, PUC-Chile, Sauder School of Business, UCD-Smurfit, the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business, and the Yale School of Management.
Kazuo Ichijo, dean of Hitotsubashi ICS, says that the site allows the network to further expand its impact, by disseminating the best of thought leadership from experts and faculty at top business schools around the world.
“We have to focus on our strengths and show that what we offer is unique,” Ichijo said. “Global Network Perspectives is a fresh way of showing the innovation of the network, and it is a state of the art way of showcasing the fresh ideas in business education.”
