This course examines the challenges of managing a workplace where people increasingly work with AI. Managing work now means managing HAIR (human and AI resources) rather than HR (human resources) alone. The course explores how AI is reshaping core management practices, such as recruitment, performance evaluation, and job design. We also examine emerging challenges, including bot-sitting AI systems and the potential for AI to intensify work even as it makes individual tasks easier. Through a combination of lectures, in-class exercises, and a team project, students will develop approaches to managing people and organizing work that support both organizational effectiveness and employee well-being. The course will also provide time for personal reflection on students’ own AI use, helping them develop an intentional “AI practice” as managers.
