Decentralized Finance (DeFi) refers to open financial infrastructures built upon public smart contract platforms and blockchain structures, that in contrast to the traditional financial sector DeFi does not rely on intermediaries and centralized institutions. DeFi as a niche market has its risks, but also has potential to be disruptive in terms of efficiency, transparency, accessibility and interoperability providing products and services worldwide. This course discusses the DeFi ecosystem, distributed ledger technology, infrastructure, markets, decentralized applications (DApps), methods and applications enabling decentralized provision of financial services.
