Topic & Description:

From Local to Global: Concepts, Frameworks, and Analytical Tools Necessary to Develop an Effective Global Strategy

Globalization has changed the dynamics of business irrevocably. Today’s companies must operate on a much larger scale and in an environment of global competitiveness where product development, market needs, customers’ targets must take into account multiple cultures, collaborations and regional developments. Even for companies that do not intend to “go abroad,” the entry of foreign companies into their home markets makes a better understanding of global strategy a necessity if not a requisite for survival. The goal of this course is to introduce you to concepts, frameworks, and analytical tools necessary to develop an effective global strategy. There will be case studies and a presentation by student group teams on companies visited.

For the challenge teams of 3 to 8 MBA students (alumni are also eligible) with representation in the Americas, Europe and Asia or Africa compete to present the best solution for the Financial Times’ charity partner.

While visiting Yale SOM on February 3, Financial Times business education editor Della Bradshaw, noting the diversity of regions represented by the Global Network for Advanced Management, suggested that GNAM schools encourage students to enter the FT MBA Challenge.

For the challenge teams of 3 to 8 MBA students (alumni are also eligible) with representation in the Americas, Europe and Asia or Africa compete to present the best solution for the Financial Times’ charity partner. This year’s challenge is to help the International Rescue Committee find a way to vaccinate “the ‘last mile’ – the 20 per cent of children yet to be vaccinated against preventable diseases.” Interested students are encouraged to apply, and, if possible, put together a GNAM team. The deadline for registration is 31 March 2015. For details please go to ft.com/mba-challenge.
